About the project


Located in Sussex County, Virginia, the 75 MWac/100 MWdc Cabin Point Solar Center will generate enough power for 15,000 homes each year; helping meet the energy needs of Virginians during peak demand periods by providing affordable and reliable electricity.

The project is a long-term asset for Ørsted and the Sussex County community. Cabin Point Solar Center will be located on 700 acres adjacent to the Sussex Landfill. Cabin Point Solar Center will generate significant economic growth for the community. The development and construction of Cabin Point Solar will create more than 200 jobs and the operation of the site will generate more than $5 million in property tax revenue for Sussex County.

The Highest Standards for Health, Safety, and Maintenance

Operations & maintenance teams are deployed regularly to guarantee site safety and peak performance, and to quickly address any challenges. Priorities include panel and inverter maintenance, site water management, timely mowing, and site security.

Land Restoration

Ørsted is legally obligated to fully restore the Cabin Point Solar site upon the conclusion of the lease. A financial instrument will be posted such that the decommissioning will be funded regardless of the ownership of the project at the time of decommissioning, All materials and equipment will be removed, and the full 700 acres of land will be brought back to its original state following the completion of operations.

Good Neighbors

Independent consulting firms with expertise in the state of Virginia have analyzed the potential traffic, economic, and environmental impacts in advance to ensure the development and operation of Cabin Point is safe and in harmony with Sussex County.
Throughout the construction and operation of Cabin Point Solar Center, Ørsted will hold regular meetings with Sussex County officials to discuss any concerns. Company representative are available to meet directly with nearby neighbors to address their concerns.

 

- Why Solar?

Solar energy generates electricity locally and at rates lower than any other form of energy generation. Energy generated at Cabin Point will go directly toward powering customers of Old Dominion Electric Co-Op. The Cabin Point Solar Project will secure affordable energy for Sussex County, and it will ensure that local landowners can optimize the economic potential of their land holdings by generating income for their families and creating revenue for the community for generations to come.
